Hey, I’m Ian.

For more than 32 years, I’ve been repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting engines and equipment of all kinds. While I’m a licensed marine and small engine mechanic by trade, my passion for engines started long before I ever stepped into a classroom.

Growing up, I spent countless hours learning from my dad and brother. They sparked my interest in understanding how things work, how to fix them, and more importantly, how to fix them properly. What started as curiosity at a young age eventually became a lifelong passion and career.

Today, I’m a husband of 26 years, a proud father of two grown sons, and a self-proclaimed shop tinkerer. If I’m not spending time with family, you’ll usually find me in the shop working on a project, solving a problem, or helping someone get more life out of the equipment they depend on.

Why I Created The Oil Geek

Throughout my career, I’ve seen the same thing happen over and over again: people spend good money on equipment, only to face costly repairs because of poor maintenance, bad information, or simple mistakes that could have been prevented.

One of the most common examples?

Putting equipment away for the season with dirty oil and old fuel, then wondering why it won’t run properly months later.

I created The Oil Geek to help people avoid those mistakes.

My goal is simple: provide practical advice, honest recommendations, and real-world experience to help you protect your investment and keep your equipment running its best.
